- In plain words
- Privacy policy
- Your choices
- Contact

### What we keep
- The readiness list and where each original is kept
- Names and phone numbers of the people you choose, your doctors, and your lawyer
- Your two letters and the guide for each person you add
- Practice run results and reports

### What we never keep
- Passwords, PINs, backup codes, or seed phrases
- Original documents

### Plan Before You Die

The guide is automated. No person reads your answers unless you contact us.

### The lawyer

Gets the one-page summary only if you send it.

## Privacy policy

This policy explains how Plan Before You Die handles personal information. Plan Before You Die is operated by company legal name, a state company in the United States. The service is offered only to people in the United States.

### Information we collect
- Account details, such as name, email address or phone number, and which people the plan owner adds to the plan.
- Plan details you enter, such as the readiness list, where papers are kept, names and phone numbers of the people added to the plan, doctors, and the lawyer, the two letters, each person's guide, practice run results, and dates.
- Payment details, which our payment processor handles. We don't store full card numbers.
- If you buy a plan as a gift, your name and email address, and the contact details you give us for the person receiving it.
- A mailing address if you order the Ready Kit.
- Basic technical information needed to run the site securely, such as browser type and pages visited.
- Copies of documents you choose to upload, stored encrypted.
- Messages you send us.

The names and phone numbers of people added to a plan come from the plan owner. Anyone added can ask us to remove their details at any time.

### What we never collect

We never ask for or store passwords, PINs, backup codes, or seed phrases. We don't collect original documents or medical records, and we don't connect to your email inbox. If you upload copies of papers, such as your will or power of attorney, we store them encrypted, only you can open them, and you can delete them anytime. The guides for people added to a plan never show balances or full account numbers.

### The free check, the Gap Check, and guide questions
- When you answer the one question on a guide page, we count the answer with nothing that identifies you. We keep only the page, the question, the answer, the day, and the site that sent you, like a search engine.
- When you finish the free readiness check, we save your answers under a private link only you get. If you don't save them by email, we delete them after 30 days.
- If you save your results, we keep your email address and the moment you picked, so we can send them and a few short tips. Every email has a link that deletes your results and your email.
- If you start a Gap Check, we keep your first name and email, and each family member's email only until their invite is sent. You see their answers. They don't see each other's.
- We may publish totals from these counts, like how many people say Medicare can talk to their family, only when at least 50 people stand behind a number.

### How we use information
- To provide the service, including the readiness list, guides, the Family Drill, reports, and reminders.
- To process payments and mail the Ready Kit.
- To send service emails, and other updates only if you agree to them.
- To keep the service secure and to fix problems.
- To meet legal requirements.

The guide is automated software, and some of it runs through service providers. It suggests next steps based on your answers. Suggestions can be wrong, so check names, numbers, and dates. No person reads your answers unless you contact us or we need to fix a technical problem.

### How information is shared

The plan owner controls the plan. We never send the plan owner's information to the people they add ourselves. Each of those people sees only the guide the plan owner approves.

We share information only in these cases.
- With service providers that host data, process payments, send email, print and mail the Ready Kit, or run the automated guide. They may use it only to provide services to us.
- When the law requires it, such as a valid court order, or to protect someone's safety.
- As part of a merger or sale of the business, with notice to you.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.

### Totals from families who opt in

We may publish yearly totals about family readiness, such as how many items families fix. These use only plans whose owners opt in, with no names or details that identify anyone. We never publish anything about a family.

### How long we keep information

We keep a plan while the account is open. When the plan owner deletes the account, we delete the plan, except records the law requires us to keep, such as payment records.

### Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect information and limit who can access it. No system is perfectly secure, which is one reason we never store passwords.

### Children

The service is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

### Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to run the site and keep you signed in. We don't use advertising cookies.

## Your choices and rights
- Download a full copy of your plan at any time.
- Correct or update anything in your plan.
- Delete your account and plan.
- Stop marketing emails with one click.

Some states, such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia, give residents specific privacy rights. We honor access, correction, and deletion requests from families in every state. We'll confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we won't treat you differently for making one.

### Changes to this policy

If we make an important change, we'll post the new policy here and email account owners before it takes effect.
