# Terms of service

The plain rules for using Plan Before You Die. It's a planning service for families in the United States.

Draft for lawyer review. Highlighted details will be filled in before launch.

## 1. Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and company legal name, which operates Plan Before You Die. By using the site or a plan, you agree to them. If you buy a plan as a gift, the person receiving it must accept their own invitation and these terms before the plan starts.

## 2. Who can use it

You must be at least 18 and live in the United States. The service is available in all 50 states. The person whose plan it is owns the account. They may buy it themselves, or someone else may pay for it as a gift.

## 3. What we do

We help people find out what their family would need if they got sick or died, guide them through setting it up, run a practice run called the Family Drill with the people they choose, and give a readiness report. Plans may include a printed Ready Kit.

## 4. What we don't do
- We are not a law firm, and using the service doesn't create a lawyer and client relationship.
- We don't give legal, medical, financial, tax, or insurance advice.
- We don't write or choose legal documents. When something seems missing or out of date, we say so and suggest asking a lawyer.
- We don't recommend Medicare plans, insurance, or investment products.
- We don't contact banks, agencies, or companies on your behalf.

A readiness report describes what was found and tried on the dates listed. It is not a guarantee or a certification. Banks, agencies, and companies such as Apple and Google decide access under their own rules. We are not affiliated with them.

## 5. Your account
- The plan owner controls the account and approves everyone added to the plan.
- Keep your sign-in details private.
- Don't enter passwords, PINs, backup codes, seed phrases, or full account numbers into the plan.
- Enter information that is accurate as far as you know.

If someone other than the plan owner tries to change who is on the plan, we may pause the change and tell the plan owner.

## 6. People added to a plan

People added to a plan see only the guide the plan owner approves. They agree to use it only to help the plan owner, and never to get into accounts without permission or legal authority.

## 7. Prices, payment, and renewal

Prices are shown on the pricing page in U.S. dollars. A plan is a one-time payment that includes the first year. After that, the yearly plan renews automatically each year at the price shown, unless you choose the one-time lifetime option. You can turn off renewal at any time before the renewal date. We'll email you before each yearly renewal. Sales tax may apply.

## 8. Refunds
- Full refund for any reason within 30 days of buying.
- Full refund if your first report finds nothing to fix.
- Full refund if you buy a plan as a gift and the person receiving it declines the invitation.

## 9. If you stop paying

You keep your download and your printed binder. Yearly practice runs and reminders stop.

## 10. Your content

You own what you put into your plan. You let us store and process it only to provide the service. You can download or delete it at any time. Our [privacy page](https://planbeforeyoudie.app/privacy) explains how we handle it.

## 11. The automated guide

The guide is automated software. It can make mistakes, so check names, numbers, and dates before anyone relies on them. You make every decision.

## 12. Fair use

Don't use the service to get into someone else's accounts, to enter another adult's information without their agreement, or to break the law. We may suspend accounts that do.

## 13. The Ready Kit

We ship the Ready Kit to addresses in the United States. If a kit arrives damaged, we'll replace it.

## 14. Changes and closing

We may update the service and these terms. We'll email account owners before important changes take effect. If we ever close the service, we'll give notice and time to download everything.

## 15. Limits on liability

We work hard to make the service accurate and useful, but we provide it as it is. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for decisions made by banks, agencies, or other companies, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before a claim.

## 16. Law and disputes

These terms follow the laws of state and the United States. If something goes wrong, please contact us first so we can try to fix it. Any dispute that can't be resolved goes to the courts of county and state.
